The story of MonteMoro begins not in a vineyard, but in a man – someone born into the rhythm of the vines, shaped by the wisdom of generations past. A winemaker who believes wine is not manufactured, but grown through patience, respect, and connection to the land.
Raised on ancestral soil, he listened closely to the lessons of his grandfather, choosing to carry them forward not as tradition, but as purpose. That man is Matjaz Babic, and this is his life’s work

Born into a lineage of winemakers, Matjaz Babic carries forward a tradition that has been practiced in his family for over two centuries-one that his father and grandfather devotedly upheld.
Initially uncertain about the path, he eventually embraced the vineyard’s rhythm after earning a Master’s degree in Business Informatics. With time, winemaking became more than heritage- it became a calling.

MonteMoro is the fruit of his vision. Alongside his wife-who shares in this journey with care and quiet strength-Matjaz continues to shape a brand rooted in authenticity and love for the land. Though the path hasn’t always been easy, he has succeeded in establishing a legacy in the league he envisioned
His work has not gone unnoticed. Over the past 15 years, Matjaz has been honored five times with the prestigious Mayor’s Wine title- a rare distinction awarded by the City of Koper. Each year, the city selects one wine to represent its excellence, used as an official protocol gift in diplomatic and civic ceremonies. MonteMoro’s wines, chosen across multiple vintages, stand as a testament to his skill and consistency.
