Natural wines – in harmony with the landscape
For over 200 years, each and every vine and grape from our vineyard is nurtured with the same amount of love and affection.
We provide vines with friendly and steady growth with minimal pressure. As a result we get their love in the form of healthy, ripe grapes and later fine wines. We maintain the tradition of our grandparents so we remain small producers with great wines. Modern knowledge taught us how to maintain the full potential of grapes and enable their natural maturation. Thus our wines can show all the wealth that is hidden within them and ensure unforgettable moments and harmonic pleasures.
Ancestors for us
There are many reasons why people think of Istria as the most beautiful place in the world. It is located near two historic cities Venice and Vienna, which also had a great impact on its history and heritage. Already in times of big and powerful Republic of Venice the vines from the slopes of Venice were much more appreciated than those from the nearby plain terrains. Our slopes were already then recognised as particular among others thanks to the different soil.
Vines on a stone
Our ancestors always knew where they have to plant a vine so it can find its coexistence with nature and give us the best grape. The best Vineyards are supported by stone terraces. They grow on sunny and airy slopes where the morning sun dries the vines and warm them throughout the day. That is the way the vine can develop and maintain its own protection against different diseases and provides us with healthy grapes – just like 200 and more years ago.
The spirit of the man
My grandfather used to tell me: Matjaž, you have to remember, wine is made of grapes, so we should always drink it with respect.
These words remained with me and they shape/form up my entire philosophy of production and attitude towards wine. With years of experience I am getting to know the deeper meaning and new dimensions of understanding wine and life.
